LEESBURG, VA (October 29) – In its last tournament of the fall, the
University of Connecticut men’s golf team finished fourth at the Georgetown Hoya
Invitational after shooting a 309 in the final round of play on Monday for an
overall score of 608. The Huskies, who were four shots off the lead and in third
place after Sunday’s first round, finished ahead of 12 other teams but behind
Princeton (607), East Carolina (587) and tournament champion Penn State (582).
East Carolina golfer Frank Adams, III was the tournament medalist. Adams led
the field after the first day of competition with a 67 and added a 71 today to
wrap up the individual championship with a 138.
Connecticut senior Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT) carded the best UConn score of
the day with a 73, giving him a 147 for the tournament and tying him with two
others for eighth place. Seniors Kevin Coghlan (North Ridge, CA) and Kevin
O’Connor (East Lyme, CT) finished with scores of 151 and 157, respectively, good
enough to tie Coghlan for 18th and O’Connor for 39th.
Freshmen Jeff Stebbins (Ramsey, NJ) and Mike Murphy (Woburn, MA) finished
tied for 46th and 50th, respectively. Stebbins fired rounds of 81and 78 for a
combined 159, while Murphy carded rounds of 75 and 85 for a combined 160.
