SAN DIEGO, CA (March 19) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team
jumped from 10th place to eighth in the final round of the 15th Annual USD
Invitational by shooting a 304 on Tuesday, giving it a combined three-round
total of 935. San Diego State University took the tournament with a combined
score of 882.
Denver’s Tony Giarratano overtook San Diego State’s Mark Warman in the final
round to capture individual medalist honors. Giarratano shot a final-round 70
(-2) to finish with a 213, four strokes ahead of Warman and San Diego State’s
Lars Johansson.
Senior Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT) led the team over the two-day tournament and
shot a team-best 73 (+1) on the day to finish tied for 22nd place overall with a
230. Freshman Mike Murphy (Woburn, MA) shot a final-round 77 (+5) to finish tied
for 28th with a 232. Senior Kevin Coghlan (Northridge, CA) carded his best round
of the tournament with a 74 (+2) to finish tied for 21st at 235, while classmate
Kevin O’Connor (East Lyme, CT) shot an 80 (+8) and tied for 59th at 241.
Freshman Justin Ciombor (Plainville, MA) rounded out UConn’s scoring with a 254,
good enough to tie him for 80th.
UConn will be back in action on Thursday, March 22, at the Kauai Collegiate
Cup in Kauai, MI.
