GREENVILLE, NC (April 6) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team held steady in the final round of play on Saturday to finish 19th at the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate with a combined score of 900. North Carolina Wilmington, which led the 25-team field after the first two rounds, held off East Carolina to win the event with a score of 856.

UNC Wilmington’s Adam Gee shot a final-round 74 but held off UNC Greensboro’s James Stanofski for individual medalist honors. Gee finished the tournament with a combined score of 211, one shot better than Stanofski.

Senior Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT) led the Huskies and tied for 25th place overall after shooting a combined 220 for the tournament. Vigue, who shot the best UConn round of the tournament (72) on Friday, has been Connecticut’s top finisher in every tournament this spring.

Senior Kevin O’Connor (East Lyme, CT) finished six strokes behind Vigue with a 226 and finished tied with classmate Kevin Coghlan (Northridge, CA) for 67th place. O’Connor tied Vigue for UConn’s best round of the day, each carding final round scores of 74. Coghlan shot his worst round of the tournament on the final day with a 77.

Freshman Mike Murphy (Woburn, MA) slipped into a tie for 101st place overall with a final-round 81 for a combined score of 233. Junior Nate Thomsen (Rocky Hill, CT) rounded out UConn’s scoring with a two-day total of 238, good enough to place him 116th overall.

Connecticut will next compete at the New England Division I Championship on April 13-14 in Providence, RI.
