Henderson Scores Five In 6-0 UConn Win

BOXSCORE

Storrs, CT (Oct. 4, 2002)-- Sophomore Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) scored a career-high five goals to lead the University of Connecticut field hockey team to a 6-0 shutout over intrastate rival Quinnipiac on Friday night at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex in Storrs. The win is UConn’s sixth in a row and lifts its record to 7-5 overall, while Quinnipiac falls to 7-6 on the season.

Senior Kelly Cochrane (Scarsdale, NY) assisted on all five of Henderson’s goals setting a new school record for most assists in a single game, while Henderson’s five goals tied a UConn record for most goals in a game.

Henderson scored all three goals in the first half off penalty corners. UConn used a set play in each where Henderson took a feed from Cochrane who received the ball from sophomore Lauren Christie (Raby, Australia).

Henderson opened the second stanza with a goal off a cross from Cochrane at 44:11, before the same trio from the first half combined for another Henderson penalty corner goal at 50:20. UConn’s final tally came from junior Kelly Stolle (Warren, CT) at the 57:46 mark.

The Huskies outshot the Bobcats, 13-1, with Quinnipiac’s only shot coming from senior Courtney Ryan (New Hope, PA). UConn goalies junior Maureen Butler (Red Hook, NY) and senior Pam Berchtold (Egg Harbor City, NJ) combined for the shutout without making a save, while Erin McKay (Norwood, MA) had six saves for the Bobcats.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when they face BIG EAST foe Boston College at 7 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, MA.
