SAAC Delivers Coats To Local Charities

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 28, 2007) --- The University of Connecticut Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held a “Winter Gear Drive” on Saturday, October 27th  at the UConn vs. South Florida football game at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

Fans were asked to bring gently used coats and other winter gear items such as hats, scarves and gloves to the event. Several student-athletes from novice rowing, women’s lacrosse, and women’s track and field volunteered their time to help collect the coats.

Although the weather didn’t cooperate, SAAC would like to thank the fans who did remember their coats. A total of about 1,000 coats were collected and then distributed to charities across Connecticut.  Those charities included the Salvation Army of Willimantic, Cornerstone Foundation in Rockville, the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry and the Manchester Area Council of Churches. SAAC would like to thank Nationwide Moving and Storage Inc. for their continued support over the past years in helping collect and deliver the coats.
