SAAC To Sponsor Book Drive At Basketball Games On February 9 And 12
STORRS, Conn. (February 1, 2008) --- The University of Connecticut
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be sponsoring a Book Drive at the
Saturday, Feb. 9, men’s basketball game vs. Georgia Tech and the Tuesday, Feb.
12, women’s basketball game vs. Georgetown. Both games will be played on campus
at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
The UConn SAAC invites all patrons planning to attend those
games to bring “gently used” children’s books from their collection. The books
will be donated to the Burgdorf Health Center in Hartford as well as the
'Friends of the Family' program at The Village South-Center for Community Life
in Hartford.
Students from UConn donate their time to read with the
children as they wait for appointments at the Burgdorf Health Center -- which is
operated by Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and the University of
Connecticut Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. After their appointment, children
are then given the book to take home with them. The Village’s 'Friends of the
Family' program is a resource and referral service for pregnant and parenting
youth who are 21 years of age and younger. |
