Thanks UConn Fans!!! Drive Nets Over 600 Books
STORRS, Conn. (February
29, 2008) --- The
University of Connecticut Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a Book Drive at
the Saturday, Feb. 9, men’s basketball game vs. Georgia Tech and the Tuesday,
Feb. 12, women’s basketball game vs. Georgetown.
Over 600 books were collected by UConn student-athletes and were delivered on
Monday, Feb. 25.
The books were donated to the Burgdorf Health
Center in Hartford as well as the 'Friends of the Family' program at The Village
South-Center for Community Life in Hartford.
Students from UConn donate
their time to read with the children as they wait for appointments at the
Burgdorf Health Center -- which is operated by Saint Francis
Hospital and Medical Center and the University of Connecticut Schools of
Medicine and Dentistry. After their appointment, children are then given the
book to take home with them. The Village’s 'Friends of the Family' program is a
resource and referral service for pregnant and parenting youth who are 21 years
of age and younger.
