SAAC To Sponsor Book Drives At Basketball Games on February 25 And 26
STORRS, Conn. (Feb. 14,
2006) --- The University of Connecticut Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
will be sponsoring Book Drives as the Saturday, Feb. 25 women’s basketball game
against Marquette and the Sunday, Feb. 26 men’s basketball game vs. Villanova.
Both games will be played at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
The UConn SAAC invites all
patrons planning to attend those games to bring “gently used” books for their
collection. The books will be donated to the Burgdorf/Bank of America Health
Center in Hartford as well as the 'Friends of the Family' program at The Village
South-Center for Community Life in Hartford.
Students from UConn donate
their time to read with the children as they wait for appointments at the
Burgdorf/Bank of America Health Center -- which is operated by Saint Francis
Hospital and Medical Center and the University of Connecticut Schools of
Medicine and Dentistry. After their appointment, children are then given the
book to take home with them. The Village’s 'Friends of the Family' program is a
resource and referral service for pregnant and parenting youth who are 21 years
of age and younger. |
