Thank You Basketball Fans For Your Support Of The SAAC Book Drive

As most Husky fans know, the UConn basketball teams were big winners this weekend at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion as the women beat Marquette on Saturday and the men topped Villanova on Sunday.

There were others winners this weekend at the basketball games as well. Our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee collected "gently-used" children's books at the contests and over over 20 boxes of books were collected. The entire UConn Division of Athletics thanks each and every fan that donated a book.

On Monday morning, the books were delivered to Hartford to the Burgdorf/Bank of America Health Center and the Village South for Families and Children in Hartford where they will be put to good use.

Janet Williams, SAAC vice president and a member of the women's lacrosse team, delivers a book to Kiejuan Haugabook at the Burgdorf/Bank of America Health Center in Hartford. Looking on is: Laura Puddle of the field hockey team, Pam Lowie of the women's lacrosse team, Marielle vanGelder (UConn athletics Coordinator of Financial Aid and Compliance), Erin Sales of the women's track and field team and former UConn women's swimmer and former SAAC president Kate Jelus -- now a graduate assistant in the UConn athletics student services office.

More books are delivered to the Burgdorf Center by member of the UConn SAAC and accepted by Dr. Grael O'Brien (far right) of the Burgdorf Center.

The bottom two photos are the stop at the Village South "Friends of the Family" program. Accepting the books is (bottom photo, right foreground) -- Pat Schmidt, director of the facility.
