The feature was part of an edition of “Huskies All-Access” – the monthly magazine show that the station produces in conjunction with the UConn Division of Athletics. "Our ongoing relationship with UConn has allowed us to produce a cutting-edge magazine-style show which focuses on the outstanding student-athletes who represent the University", said WTNH Vice President and Director of New Kirk Varner.  "We’re pleased that News Channel 8’s continuing focus to tell unique local stories was recognized with an Emmy award for sports feature reporting.”

WTNH won a total of three Emmys at the awards ceremony and was nominated for a total of 16 Emmys, including three for the “Huskies All-Access” show.

“All of us at UConn would like to congratulate General Manager Jon Hitchcock and the entire News Channel 8 team for their New England Emmy awards.” said UConn Director of Athletics Jeffrey Hathaway. “We value our dynamic partnership with WTNH and share the excitement of the station’s multiple Emmy nominations and awards.  We are proud of all of the achievements of our student-athletes and are especially thrilled about the Emmy for the heartwarming feature on our women’s ice hockey team and its favorite fan.”
