Sherman Complex Getting New Field and Track While Gampel Floor Being Refinished

STORRS, Conn. (May 23, 2008) – As the summer months begin to roll around on the Storrs campus, a number of improvement and maintenance are being done on UConn athletic facilities. Outside, the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex is undergoing the installation of a new artificial field surface, replacing the original artificial surface, and a new track will be installed later in the summer. That facility is used by the UConn field hockey, women's lacrosse and men's and women's track and field teams.

On the inside, the entire floor surface of the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion is being stripped and refinished. Part of that project will feature the re-painting of the court, which will have an interesting twist -- two three-point lines. Next season, the three-point field goal line for men will be at 20 feet, nine inches, while the women's line will stay at 19 feet, nine inches.
