win over New Orleans to avoid a series sweep. The win moves the
Huskies to 3-7, while the Privateers fall to 13-9.
New Orleans jumped out early for the first time in the series with
four runs in the bottom of the first. UConn would answer right back in
the top of the second with six runs. Freshman Bryan Maler (Ansonia,
CT) led off the inning with a homerun. The scoring continued with a
two run double by Burnham, a two run single by Peter Soteropoulos
(Peabody, MA) and an RBI double by Mike McDonough (Abington, MA).
The Privateers would pull to within one run in the bottom of the
fourth on a sacrifice fly by Gabe Trevizo. The Huskies added two runs
to their lead in the top of sixth on an RBI triple by Russ D’Argento
(Marlboro, MA) and on Burnham’s second RBI double.
New Orleans would put one more run on the board in the bottom of
the seventh on a UConn error. The Huskies would put the Privateers
away though plating five runs in the top of the ninth capped off by a
three run homerun by Burnham.
Soteropoulos gets the win for the Huskies allowing four hits and
five runs (three earned) in five innings of work. Tim Norton (Pascoag,
