STORRS, CT (April 10) -- The University of Connecticut baseball team took two games from BIG EAST foe Seton Hall thanks in large part to a pair of complete games by Husky starters Jeff Hourigan (Beacon Falls, CT) and Brendan McGinn (Tolland, CT).  The Huskies took Game 1 by a score of 5-4, and completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory in Game 2 on Saturday afternoon in Storrs.

With the wins, the Huskies improve to 16-12 on the campaign and level themselves at 5-5 in the BIG EAST.  Seton Hall drops to 8-20-1, 4-6.

In Game 1, Tony Mallozzi (Westboro, MA) got things started in the Husky eighth with a one out single through the right side and advanced to second on a catcher’s interference call. That set the stage for Mike Leonard’s (Vernon, CT) single into left field allowing Mallozzi to score the game-winning run.

Russ D’Argento (Marlboro, MA) got the Huskies on the board in the bottom half of the first inning. The Junior center fielder ripped a single into center field and stole second base. D’Argento advanced to third on Marc Peluso’s ground out and scored on a wild pitch by Pirate starter Joey Scott.

Seton Hall answered with three runs in the third inning and plated another in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. However, the Huskies would make a stand in the sixth inning, as both Dennis Donovan (Center Moriches, NY) and D’Argento walked to lead off the inning. Donovan would score on Marc Peluso’s (Pawcatuck, CT) single through the right side, and D’Argento scored on Leonard’s sacrifice fly. Pinch hitter Larry Day (Amesbury, MA) ripped a single into center field, driving in the tying run, setting up Leonard’s eighth inning heroics.

Jeff Hourigan (Beacon Falls, NY) went the distance, throwing eight innings while giving up four runs and striking out six. Hourigan runs his season record to 4-2 . Chris Noonan took the loss for Seton Hall.

Peluso went 2-for-3 for UConn with one RBI and one run scored. Leonard went 1-for-3 with two RBI, including the game-winner.

The Huskies scored four runs in the home half of the third inning and that was all Game 2 starter Brendan McGinn would need.  Freshman Matt Untiet (Berlin, CT) led off the Husky fourth with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on Donovan's ground out.  D'Argento then proceeded to serve a single into right field, scoring Untiet.  Mallozzi continued his productive day with a double into right center, allowing D'Argento to come around and score.  Mallozzi would score on another Mike Leonard RBI single.

McGinn made the Huskies' four run inning stand up.  The sophomore lefty went nine innings, scattered seven hits and gave up two runs while striking out nine and walking one to claim his first win of the season.

D'Argento got two more hits in Game 2 and scored one run and drove in another.  Untiet went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Huskies are back in action on Tuesday, April 13 when they take on UMass at 3:00 p.m. in Amherst.
