-- University of Connecticut baseball standout Jeff Hourigan (Beacon
Falls, CT) has been selected to play in the 2004 New England
Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game Scheduled for May
30 at Fenway Park. Game time is set for approximately 7:00 p.m. as the
All-Star game is slated to begin after a Red Sox vs. Mariners Contest.
Hourigan was a NEIBA Division I First Team selection. The Division
I Team will square off with a team of Division II and III All-Stars,
and the Division I side holds a 19-8-1 all-time series edge.
Hourigan, a junior who just completed his first year at UConn,
transferred in from Clemson following the 2003 season. He finished the
2004 campaign with a .320 batting average and also had a team-high
eight home runs. His 38 RBI were second on the team and his slugging
percentage of .503 was a team best.
Hourigan, who is listed on the All-Star Team roster as a designated
hitter, also appeared in 15 games last season as a pitcher. He was 5-6
with a 5.24 and recorded a team-high 55 strikeouts. In his 13 starts,
Hourigan also hurled a team-high seven complete games.
