Jeff Hourigan Named BIG EAST Player of the Week
PROVIDENCE,
R.I. (April 5, 2005) - Senior captain Jeff Hourigan (Beacon
Falls, Conn.) has been selected Player of the Week as announced by the
BIG EAST Conference on Tuesday, April 5. This is the first BIG EAST
weekly honor for Hourigan in his career and the second for a Husky
this season (Rich Sirois, Pitcher of the Week - March 14).
Hourigan helped UConn to a 4-2 record on the week both at the plate
and on the mound. On the week he hit .476 with an outstanding .952
slugging percentage. He went 10-for-21, including four doubles and two
homeruns, with 10 RBI and six runs. Hourigan began the week pitching
three innings in a start at Northeastern March 29 allowing one run on
two hits with six strikeouts, while also batting 1-for-4 with an RBI.
He then drove in four on a 2-for-4 effort at Fairfield March 31 before
helping UConn take two of three games in its first BIG EAST home
series of the season. Against the Mountaineers, Hourigan registered a
.500 average (6-for-12) and closed out the series on Monday with a
3-for-5, three run, three RBI performance.
Connecticut looks to continue its strong play with the Huskies host
Northeastern on April 5 and Marist on April 6. Both games begin at
3:00 p.m. at J.O. Christian Field.
