Hourigan, D'Argento Named to All-BIG EAST Teams
BRIDGEWATER, N.J.
(May 25, 2005) - Seniors Jeff Hourigan (Beacon Falls, Conn.)
and Russ D'Argento (Marlboro, Mass.) were selected to All-BIG
EAST teams as announced by the conference on Wednesday evening.
Hourigan was named to the second team while D'Argento was a third team
honoree. The all-conference honors the first for either player in
their careers.
Hourigan led the Huskies with a .622 slugging percentage, and ranked
second in batting average at .348. The first baseman set a new
career-high with nine homeruns and tied for the team-high with 18
doubles and 44 RBI. Hourigan was also the lone senior on the pitching
staff and finished 2005 with a 5-2 record and one save in 13
appearances and a 5.02 ERA. In 57.1 innings pitched, he struck out 48
while issuing only 11 base on balls.
D'Argento hit for a .324 average, fourth-best on the team. In 51 games
played, the outfielder tallied 16 doubles, 48 runs and 44 RBI. He also
hit two triples and five homeruns. D'Argento stole 19 bases to rank
second on the team and only struck out 13 times in 176 at-bats. With
57 hits this season, D'Argento became only the seventh player in UConn
history to reach the 200-career hits plateau.
