UConn Pitchers Dominating On The Mound This Summer
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut may be in the
off-season, but that does not mean its players are. Pitchers
Mike Tarsi (Danbury, Conn.), Rich Sirois (Ipswitch, Mass.),
Josh MacDonald (Milford, Conn.), David Erickson
(Stratford, Conn.) and Tim Norton (Pascoag, R.I.) are all
current member of UConn's squad playing for various teams and leagues
across the East Coast. Tarsi, a rising sophomore, is competing in
the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) for the Danbury
Westerners. For the Westerners, Tarsi boasts a 2.95 ERA in 42.2
innings pitched and leads his team in runners picked off with three.
He was recently elected to the NECBL's 12th Annual All-Star Game to be
played in July 24 at Cardines Field in Newport, R.I. Joining Tarsi
in the NECBL All-Star game will be UConn teammate, Sirois. Playing for
the North Adams Steeple Cats, Sirois has posted a 1.55 ERA and a 3-1
record in 46.1 IP. During the UConn 2005 season, he was named
BIG EAST Player of the Week on March 14. Incoming sophomore,
Erickson, was named to the Atlantic College Baseball League (ACBL)
Kaiser Division All-Star team for his efforts as a Stamford Robin.
In 18.1 IP, Erickson has a 3.93 ERA and and a 1-1 record. The
ACBL All-Star game took place on Monday, July 18 at St. John's
University. The Kaiser Division fell to the Wolff Division, 5-4.
Erickson made a brief relief appearance in the game. Milford, Conn.,
native, MacDonald was named Pitcher of the Week for the Valley
Baseball League of Virginia on July 5. MacDonald is a member of
the New Market Rebels. In 53.2 IP, MacDonald has recorded a 4.35
ERA and 46 strikeouts. Norton, an integral part of the Huskies
pitching staff, has been making a name for himself this summer in the
Cape Cod Baseball League. As a member of the Falmouth
Commodores, Norton has a 3-1 record, a 2.18 ERA and leads the league
is strikeouts with 53. He was named the Coca-Cola Pitcher of the
Week on June 19, the first week of the season. |
