BRADENTON, Fla. (March 6, 2006) – Senior
pitcher John Slusarz (Farmington, Conn.) threw six innings of
shutout baseball and four Husky players went three-for-five as the
University of Connecticut defeated Mount St. Mary’s on Monday
afternoon by a 17-0 score.
UConn improves to 5-2 with the win while Mount
St. Mary’s falls to 3-3.
Slusarz struck out eight and walked one and gave
up just three hits in the effort.
Senior Steve Malinowski (Berlin, Conn.)
was one of the four Huskies to go three-for-five and his two-run
double paced a three-run seventh inning. Junior Larry Day
(Amesbury, Mass.) also went three-for-five and his two-run double in
the first inning got the Huskies going as UConn scored three times in
the first inning.
Junior Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) and
senior Austin Wasserman (Nashua, N.H.) also went three-for-five
in the win.
UConn returns to action on Tuesday when it takes
on Jacksonville in Clearwater, Fla., at 7:00 p.m.
