BRADENTON, Fla. (March 9, 2006) - Two runs in the seventh inning would give the University of Toledo the edge it would need to defeat the Huskies, 2-0 on Thursday morning.  Senior right-hander Tim Norton (Pascoag, R.I.) pitched a complete game for Connecticut, striking out eight of 30 batters faced.  He allowed six hits and two runs in the game.  Only one run was earned.  With the loss, the Huskies hold an even record of 5-5 while the Rockets improve to 4-2.

UConn struggled at the plate with only three hits in the game.  Junior co-captain Larry Day (Amesbury, Mass.) recorded the team’s only extra base hit in the second inning.  The catcher went 1-4 with a walk in the game.  Other Huskies making contact in the game were sophomore Matt Karl (Wallingford, Conn.), who came in to pinch hit for junior Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) in the ninth.  Sophomore Pat Mahoney (Des Moines, Iowa) also notched a single in the game for Connecticut in the second inning.

The Rockets scored their two runs of the game in the seventh inning.  Dan Strong hit a leadoff single in the inning to put a man on base.  Joel Visser reached base in the following at-bat off an error by Norton on a sacrifice bunt.  With two men on, Jason Watson grounded out, but still advanced both runners into scoring position.  Travis Pilewski drove in the winning run off a single in the next at-bat.  Both Stong and Visser score on the play.  The inning ended with a 6-4-3 double play.

The team will play again on Friday at 10:00 a.m. against Duquesne at IMG Baseball Academy Field.
