Four Huskies Named to NEIBA All-New England Division I All-Star
Team
STORRS, Conn.
(May 28, 2008)
— Four Huskies, including a program-record three
freshmen, were named to the 2008 New England Intercollegiate
Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New England Division I all-star
team, announced Tuesday.
Freshman
Pierre LePage (Wolcott, Conn.) was a first team selection as
freshmen Mike Olt (Branford, Conn.) and Elliot Glynn
(Los Alamitos, Calif.) as well as sophomore Peter Fatse
(Hampden, Mass.) were chosen for the second team.
LePage
recently completed a successful first season with the Huskies,
leading the team in runs scored (55) and hits (76), while being tied
for first in doubles (14) and stolen bases (19). As a freshman,
LePage became one of the Huskies' most successful lead-off hitters
in program history with a team-high .341 batting average. He is
currently tied for fifth in the UConn single-season record book with
223 at-bats, tied for sixth with 76 hits and tied for seventh with
55 runs scored. In the field, LePage led the Huskies with a
team-high 158 assists.
Olt
also had a UConn record-breaking season as he picked up 61 RBIs, a
new single-season program record, beating out Brian Packin with 60
in 1999. Olt also recorded 13 homeruns, tying for seventh place in
the record books, while also being in the top-10 for at-bats with
220. The freshman led the Huskies with 127 total bases, good for a
fifth place single-season tie in that category. Olt added a .318
average at the plate, a team-best .577 slugging percentage and 18
stolen bases in 20 attempts. Along with 151 assists on defense, Olt
added 85 put-outs.
The third
freshman to be chosen for the all-star teams was Glynn, who finished
the season with a .324 batting average in 43 games played. As a
designated hitter, Glynn got up to bat 173 times, knocking in 41
RBIs on 56 hits. He recorded 90 total bases while picking up 12
doubles, one triple and three homeruns.
Sophomore
Fatse finished the season a perfect 19-for-19 on stolen bases to tie
LePage with the most stolen bases on the year. He also recorded 47
RBIs and eight homeruns for the second-best numbers in those
categories throughout the season. Fatse played in 53 games while
recording 201 at-bats, 35 runs scored and 58 hits, including nine
doubles, two triples and eight homeruns.
The First
Team contains 13 athletes with five infielders, three outfielders,
three starting pitchers, one relief pitcher and one designated
hitter. The Second Team has been filled with 14 individuals,
including an extra outfielder.
The All-New
England Division I teams constitute the University Division roster
for the 2008 NEIBA New England College Baseball All-Star Game to be
played at Fenway Park on June 14. The game will begin at 12:00 p.m.
with gates opening an hour prior to its start. Admission is free.
