TUCSON, Ariz.
(June 5, 2008)
— University of Connecticut freshman, Mike Olt
(Branford, Conn.), has been named a 2008 Louisville
Slugger Freshman All-American
by
Collegiate Baseball, as announced Tuesday afternoon.

Olt, the Huskies starting shortstop in 54 of the 55 games played, had a UConn record-breaking season as he picked up 61 RBIs, a
new single-season program record, beating out Brian Packin with 60
in 1999.
The freshman phenom also recorded 13 homeruns, tying for seventh place in
the record books, while also being in the top-10 for at-bats with
220. The freshman led the Huskies with 127 total bases, good for a
fifth place single-season tie in that category. Olt added a .318
average at the plate, a team-best .577 slugging percentage and 18
stolen bases in 20 attempts. Along with 151 assists on defense, Olt
added 85 put-outs.
"Mike is the first freshman to earn this honor for our ball club in
some time," said UConn baseball head coach Jim Penders. "He
had a great finish to a very strong first season with us and we look
forward to his development and his play at UConn down the road."
Olt also
earned a spot on the University Division roster
for the 2008 NEIBA New England College Baseball All-Star Game to be
played at Fenway Park on June 14. The game will begin at 12:00 p.m.
with gates opening an hour prior to its start. Admission is free.
