Baseball Lands Six Players on Summer League Top Prospect Lists
Dan Mahoney, Mike Olt Named Top
Prospects in NECBL

— Six
University of Connecticut baseball players have earned spots on
their respective summer league Top Prospect Lists, as announced by
PG Cross Checker and Baseball America.
Dan
Mahoney (Boston, Mass.) was ranked the top prospect of the New
England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) by the PG Cross Checker
List and the second best prospect according to Baseball America.
Mahoney posted a 1.66 ERA for the 26-16 Newport Gulls. He finished
the season with a record of 1-1 with seven saves in 15 appearances
on the hill. In 21.2 innings pitched, Mahoney allowed 17 hits and
four earned runs while striking out 36.
Mike Olt
(Branford, Conn.) finished the season with the Danbury Westerners as
he posted a .279 average at the plate during a season in which he
won the NECBL Homerun Derby. Olt started in all 39 games for the
Westerners, while recording 32 runs, 41 hits and six homeruns. Olt
is ranked the third-best prospect on the PG Cross Checker List while
being named the top prospect for Baseball America.
Harold
Brantley, Jr. (Silver Spring, Md.) played for the Metro Cadets
of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) and led the Cadets
with a .354 batting average and 21 runs batted in. He was ranked the
14th best prospect in the ACBL on te PG Cross Checker List. Brantley
added 45 hits and a team-high 34 runs scored as he played in all 39
games of the Cadets' season.
Doug Elliot
(Rocky Hill, Conn.) played in the New York Collegiate Baseball
League (NYCBL) for the Geneva Red Wings and was also a league
All-Star earlier in the season. He was ranked the ninth best
prospect according to the PG Cross Checker List in the NYCBL while
posting a .309 average along with 43 hits, 10 doubles and 15 RBIs.
Elliot also had a team-high 241 putouts.
Dusty Odenbach
(Rochester, N.Y.) also played in the NECBL, for the Vermont
Mountaineers. Odenbach was ranked by the PG Cross Checkers as the
17th best prospect as he threw in 18 games for an overall record of
1-1 and a 2.05 ERA. In 22 innings thrown, he struck out 35 while
collecting 11 saves.
John
Folino (Quincy, Mass.) finished the summer with a 3-0 record
from the mound and a 0.45 ERA. In three starts, he combined for two
shutouts while allowing just one run. En route to a successful
season, Folino struck out 16 batters, walked just two and allowed 12
hits in 20 innings.
