Four Huskies Earn Postseason League Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 7, 2005)-- Four University of Connecticut players earned postseason honors as the BIG EAST Conference announced the 2004-05 All-BIG EAST teams Monday morning.

UConn sophomores Josh Boone (Mt. Airy, Md.) and Charlie Villanueva (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were each selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Sophomore Marcus Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team. Freshman Rudy Gay (Baltimore, Md.) was a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.

Boone leads the BIG EAST in rebounding and blocked shots and is averaging 12.9 points per contest. Villanueva averaged 14.9 points and 9.0 rebounds in league play, leading the conference in the rebound category in BIG EAST games. Williams leads the BIG EAST in assists at 8.0 per game. Gay is averaging 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds.

UConn opens play in the 2005 BIG EAST Championship on Thursday, March 10 with a 7:00 p.m. quarterfinal matchup against the winner of the Georgetown/Seton Hall First Round contest. The game will be televised by espn2.
