UConn Vs. Central Arkansas Game To Be Available On Webcast Friday Night

STORRS, Conn. (November 15, 2006) – The University of Connecticut men’s basketball game vs. Central Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 17, will be available for fans to watch through streaming video on UConnHuskies.com. The game will mark the first time that UConnHuskies.com has webcast a UConn sporting event live.

The game, which starts at 8:00 p.m., is UConn’s first contest in the three-day Hispanic College Fund Classic, which will be played Friday-Sunday at the Hartford Civic Center.

The webcast will be hosted by VBrick Systems, Inc., of Wallingford, Conn. Technical support is being provided by Nerac, Inc., of Tolland, Conn., the host of UConnHuskies.com and a UConn corporate partner.

“We are happy to provide the unique opportunity for UConn alumni and fans all over the world to watch the Huskies,” said Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway.  “We thank our good friends at Nerac and VBrick Systems for helping us provide the game to UConn fans worldwide.”

UConn will not be able to produce any other webcasts this season because ESPN holds exclusive streaming rights for all BIG EAST conference and non-conference games through its contract with the league.  This untelevised game in the Hispanic Fund Classic presents a unique opportunity because such exempt tournament events are not part of the current conference TV rights package.

The Huskies two other games in the Classic will be televised – Saturday, Nov. 18 vs. Fairfield at 8:00 p.m. will be seen on WTIC-TV Channel 61 in Hartford and SportsNet New York while the Sunday, Nov. 19 game vs. Mississippi will be live on ESPNU at 8:00 p.m. In all, 27 of UConn’s 30 regular season games will be televised this season.

The webcast on Friday will feature the video feed from the Hartford Civic Center scoreboard and the audio will be the play-by-play call of the WTIC UConn Radio Network. A link to the webcast will also be available on www.wtic.com.

Fans wishing to view the game will simply go the front page of UConnHuskies.com the night of the contest and click on a link that will bring them to the game on the VBrick site.
