Incoming Freshman Walker Stars With
U18 USA Basketball Team In Argentina
FORMOSA, Argentina (July 2008) - Incoming freshman Kemba Walker
(New York, N.Y.) is currently playing with the the 2008 USA Basketball Men’s U18
National Team in the 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Argentina. Walker
posted 12 points and five assists in the USA's opening round contest against
Venezuela Monday, helping pace the team to a 82-73 win.
“We felt since day one that Kemba Walker was the catalyst for our team,” said
national team and Davidson head coach Bob McKillop. “He’s the one that started
us off, he’s a superb leader. He just gets better and better and makes everyone
around him better.
The 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship features eight U18 national teams from
North, South and Central America and the Caribbean with the top four finishing
teams qualifying for the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship, slated to be held
July 2-12 in New Zealand.
Following preliminary round play the top two teams in each group advance to the
July 17 medal round semifinals and the gold medal game will be contested at 8:00
p.m. on July 18.
