BRONX, NY (Oct. 31) - The University of Connecticut men’s
cross country team placed their top five runners in the top 50 to finish fifth
of 12 teams at the BIG EAST Championship held at Van Cortlandt Park. Georgetown
took home the title by finishing five runners in the top 10 and having a point
total of 29, with their closest competitor being second-place Notre Dame with 66
points.
Mike Hall (Washington Depot, CT) was the top finisher for the
Huskies, running a time of 25:44 to place 25th. Ken Goglas (Randolph, NJ) placed
32nd in a time of 26:10, and also scoring points for UConn was Pat Blake
(Lebanon, CT), Eric Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY) and Max Feldman (Easton,
CT).
In the men’s 8,000-meter race, Georgetown was paced by junior Rod Koborsi who
posted a second-place time of 24:38 to improve on his 14th-place showing last
year. Six Hoya runners placed in the top 15, including Chris Lukezic who was
third with a time of 24:42 and Fleet Hower who finished fifth in 24:45. This
marks Georgetown’s league-best 13th championship title, including four of the
last six.
The top men’s finisher was Villanova graduate student Jonathan Fasulo who
crossed the finish line in 24:35. Fasulo and two additional top 15 finishers
helped give VU a third-place showing. Notre Dame placed two runners in the top
10 as the Irish finished second. BIG EAST Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year
honors went to Georgetown led by head coach Ron Helmer.
