Men's Hockey Goalie Beau Erickson Named to AHA Second Team

Complete List of AHA Award Winners

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 13, 2008) - The University of Connecticut men's hockey goaltender Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) was named to the Atlantic Hockey Association second team at the annual league banquet in Rochester, N.Y. Thursday. It is his first career postseason honor from the AHA.

Erickson 11-17-3 this season with a 2.96 goals against average and a save percentage of .913. He earned his first two career shutouts during the year. The 947 saves he made set a new all-time record for single season saves at UConn, breaking the old record of 942 set by Scott Tomes in 2003-04.

During the weekend of Jan. 25-26, when the Huskies hosted RIT, Erickson stopped 40 shots to lead Connecticut to a 3-0 win over the Tigers on the 25th. He then followed it up by stopping 30 more in a 1-1 tie the next night. By stopping 70 of 71 shots over the weekend, he was honored nationally by being named Inside College Hockey's  National Player of the Week. He was also given the AHA Player of the Week honors, the first time this season a goalie had won that award.

After suffering what was originally thought to be a season ending knee injury, Erickson recovered in only three weeks to return for the final regular season weekend against Holy Cross February 29-March 1. On the 29th, he stopped 27 saves in shutting out the Crusaders 3-0. He followed it up with 25 more saves the next night in a 4-2 win. That performance earned him AHA Goalie of the Week honors.

UConn finished the season 13-21-3. They had an AHA record of 11-14-3. The young Huskies, which featured only one senior took Sacred Heart to the maximum three games in their AHA quarterfinal series before falling 4-1 in the finale.
