Huskies Pick Up First BIG EAST Win, Shutting Out West Virginia, 2-0

STORRS, CT (Sept. 14) – The University of Connecticut men’s
soccer team picked up its first BIG EAST win this evening behind two goals from
Damani Ralph (Kingston, Jamaica). Freshman goaltender Adam Schuerman
(Brookfield, WI) recorded his third shutout with the Huskies, making three
saves.
Connecticut dominated the first half, out shooting West
Virginia, 12-3, but put only one ball in the net. Ralph scored his
third goal of the season off a free kick. Rui Fernandes (Bridgeport, CT)
and Anthony Curtis (Kingston, Jamaica) set up the kick that knocked in off the left post before
beating Mountaineer goaltender Chris McKinney.
Ralph scored again in the second half, giving the Huskies a
two-goal advantage. Andres Rota (Kingwood, TX) set up a give-and-go play for
goal two. Curtis was also credited with an assist.
With the win, Connecticut improves to 3-1-0, 1-1-0 BIG
EAST. The Mountaineers fall to 2-2-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST. The Huskies return to
action on Tuesday, September 17 when they travel to match up with Boston
University at 7 p.m.
