PROVIDENCE, RI (September 30) – Damani Ralph (Kinston,
Jamaica) and Shavar Thomas (Kingston, Jamaica) earned Player of the Week honors
as named by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday afternoon. Ralph was selected as
the Co-Offensive Player of the Week along with Mauricio Solano from Providence,
while Thomas was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
Ralph helped Connecticut win the Washington Husky Nike
Classic with a 2-0 record. In a 2-1 win over No. 12 Portland, he assisted on the
game-winning tally with 18:24 to play. Ralph then tallied both goals in 2-0
victory host Washington.
Thomas was named the Defensive MVP at the Washington Husky
Nike Classic as Connecticut claimed the tournament title. He anchored the
defense that allowed one goal in two victories – 2-1 over No. 12 Portland and
2-0 over Washington. Thomas and the UConn defense limited the Pilots and Huskies
to a total of 15 shots.
UConn will end its five-game road trip on Wednesday against BIG EAST foe
Boston College in Newton, MA at 3:00 pm.
