STORRS, Conn. — Freshman Chukwudi Chijindu (Fontana, Calif.) scored two goals to lift the University of Connecticut men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Iona at Morrone Stadium on Sunday in an exhibition game.

Chijindu got the Huskies on the board at the 25:11 points of the match when he scored on a pass up the field by UConn goalkeeper Geoffrey Anatole (Sharon, Mass.). Chijindu increased the UConn lead to 2-0 with his second goal of the game at the 26:25 mark of the first half. Junior Willis Forko (Houston, Texas) fed the ball across the net to a waiting Chijindu who kicked it over the Iona goalkeeper's right shoulder. A second assist was awarded to freshman Ryan Cordeiro (Highland Mills, N.Y.).

Senior William Osorio (Miami, Fla.) scored the only goal of the second half, unassisted at the 83:25 mark.

UConn outshot the Gaels by a 16-7 count and each team had two cornerkicks.

The Huskies return to action on Friday, Aug. 27 when they travel to Duke for a 7:00 p.m. exhibition game. UConn opens the regular season on Wednesday, Sept. 1 when it entertains Michigan at 7:00 p.m.
