UConn Men’s Soccer Runs Past West Virginia, 2-0
Goals from Chijindu and Brown lift the Huskies

STORRS, Conn. (Sept. 19) – With two second half goals, the University of Connecticut (3-3-0, 1-0-0 BE) defeated West Virginia (3-3-0, 0-2-0 BE), 2-0, in the Huskies’ men’s soccer BIG EAST season opener Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies put the difference-maker on the board in the 74th minute as senior Stephen Arias (Bakersfield, Calif.) sent a pass up the field that freshman Chukwudi Chijindu (Fontana, Calif.) fired past Mountaineer goalkeeper Nick Noble.


Junior Drew Brown (Middletown, Conn.) then sealed the victory for UConn with his first goal of the season at 89:40, giving the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.

Sophomore Geoffrey Anatole (Sharon, Mass.) made one save in net for Connecticut while Noble stopped three for West Virginia. Shots were 11-3 in favor of Connecticut and the Mountaineers totaled three corner kicks to UConn’s none.

The Huskies next travel to Virginia Commonwealth on Wednesday, September 22nd for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
