William Osorio (Miami, Fla.) netted an unassisted goal at 89:44 as the
University of Connecticut (3-3-1, 1-0-0 BE) men’s soccer team played to a 1-1
tie against Virginia Commonwealth (3-2-1) at Sports Backers Stadium on Wednesday
night.Dominic Oduro opened the scoring for the Rams at 50:31 with a header
into the lower left corner off a feed from Samuel Asante to end UConn’s streak
of shutout minutes at 247:13.
Osorio then forced overtime with his first goal of the season for the Huskies
with just 16 seconds to play in regulation.
VCU goalkeeper Saul Montero turned aside three shots in the second half and
two in overtime play for a total of five saves, while Adam Schuerman
(Brookfield, Wis.) made one save for Connecticut in his first start of the
season.
The Rams outshot UConn, 13-11 and also had the advantage on corner kicks,
7-5, while fouls were even at 13 apiece.
The Huskies will next face Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 at
Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. The game is the second of a doubleheader, with
UConn women’s soccer taking on Rutgers at 5:00 p.m. With the two games,
Connecticut is looking to shatter the BIG EAST soccer game attendance record of
