Men’s Soccer Outlasts Rutgers, 1-0 in 2OT
James nets game winner for Huskies

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 16) –
Freshman Julius James (Maloney Gardens, Trinidad) netted the game winner at 106:41 as the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team defeated Rutgers, 1-0, in double overtime Saturday evening at Morrone Stadium.

Senior Easton Wilson (Hartford, Conn.) fed James the ball on a corner kick opportunity for UConn and James connected with the pass, sending the ball into the top of the Scarlet Knights’ net for his first career goal. With the victory, the Huskies improve to 7-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the BIG EAST. Rutgers falls to 5-6-3, 2-3-2 in the BIG EAST.

UConn goalkeeper Adam Schuerman (Brookfield, Wis) collected his second shutout of the season, his fourth victory, while Lubos Ancin made four saves for the Scarlet Knights and suffered the loss. Shots were 15-5 and corner kicks were 7-0, both in favor of the Huskies.

UConn next takes on BIG EAST foe Boston College on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Morrone Stadium.
