Off the Pitch with Coach Ray Reid: Sept.
26, 2007
The Huskies
took on a road trip this past weekend that involved three flights in four
days, a total of 2700 miles and two matches in a span of 37 hours. To say
this was a difficult trip would be a complete understatement.
On Friday
evening the Huskies traveled to Tampa, Florida to play the previously
undefeated USF Bulls. After a 2 hour and 10 minute delay due to
thunderstorms and lightning the match kicked off at 9:40 p.m. The first
half was a real battle with Josh Ford making a couple of exceptional saves.
In the 51st minute off a melee in the 6 yard box the Bulls scored the first
goal of the match.
Fourteen
minutes later the Huskies answered with Michal Pezza serving a ball to
O'Brian White who finished it to tie the match at one-all. In the 65th
minute, five minutes later Ryan Cordeiro put a big time cross on the foot of
Chukwudi Chijindu who finished it to put the Huskies up 2 to 1. From that
point on the Huskies closed off the match and defeated a resilient USF side.
On Sunday, the
Huskies were defeated at DePaul 1-0. The Huskies could never find a rhythm,
between fatigue and the fouling. It appeared that the effort of the USF win
had taken a lot of the steam out of UConn.
The Huskies
return to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium for two matches this week. On Friday,
September 28 the Huskies will face the St. John's Red Storm at 7:00 p.m. and
on Sunday, they Huskies will play the Orange of Syracuse at 3:30 p.m.
This will be an
exciting weekend of soccer for spectators to come out and enjoy. For

Huskies) please contact Kevin Bacher at
