White Nabs Second
Straight Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Honor
PROVIDENCE,
R.I. (October 15, 2007) - O'Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario), a junior on
the top-ranked University of Connecticut men's soccer team, was named the BIG
EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, as announced
by the conference office Monday. With his performance last week, the Huskies are
now 12-1-1 on the year and 6-1-1 in the BIG EAST.
White tallied eight points in Connecticut’s two conference games this past week.
He notched his second-straight hat trick in a 3-0 win over Providence on Oct.
10. He became the first player in UConn history to achieve that feat and became
just the second to post more than one three-goal performance in a career, let
alone a single season.
He followed that performance with the game’s first goal in a 3-3 tie at
third-ranked Notre Dame on Oct. 13. White now has an NCAA-leading 15 goals on
the season.
This is White's second consecutive conference Player of the Week honor and
fourth this season. He is the only player to be recognized four times among any
of the four awards.
The Huskies return to action Friday, Oct. 19, at West Virginia. The game is set
for 8 p.m. and will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel as part of its Match
of the Week series. No. 19 West Virginia is 8-4-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the BIG
EAST after defeating Georgetown, 1-0, in overtime Saturday. |
