O'Brian White Tagged BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 29, 2007) - O'Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Monday after helping the No. 2 University of Connecticut men's soccer team to wins over Yale and Marquette last week. The junior forward has received the honor five times this season, including three of the last four weeks.

White notched six points in two games for the Huskies. He tallied both goals in UConn’s 2-1 win at Yale on Oct. 24 and then assisted on each goal in a 2-1 overtime win at home on Oct. 27 vs. Marquette. White sent in a centering pass to teammate Ryan Cordeiro (Highland Mills, N.Y.) in the 97th minute to lift the Huskies to victory over the Golden Eagles. White also assisted on the game’s first goal by Chukwudi Chijindu (Fontana, Calif.), just under the nine-minute mark.

White is the NCAA leader in goals and points after tallying at least one point in six of the last seven games. With the six points from this past week, he moved into ninth place for single-season points in program history. Only a junior, his latest performance also placed him in the career record books – he is now 12th in all-time scoring with 88 points off 34 goals and 20 assists.

White and the Huskies conclude the regular season Saturday, Nov. 3, with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Seton Hall in Piscataway, N.J. The Pirates are currently 7-9-0 on the season and 3-6-0 in the BIG EAST after falling to No. 20 West Virginia, 3-0, Saturday afternoon. They have a mid-week game vs. Georgetown on their home field before taking on UConn.
