I hope that everyone had a
great Thanksgiving with their friends and family. We had the best Thanksgiving
that we could have asked for, as we prepare for the NCAA Tournament. The regular
season has now concluded, as well as the BIG EAST Tournament, and we are now on
to the final season - the NCAA Tournament. We have had no school this week, so
our players have had a chance to rest and really give us their utmost
concentration in training.
It is hard to imagine that we have already put 13 weeks in the books since
preseason opened, but the time has flown by.
This past weekend, our team had the opportunity to compete against two very good
teams in Louisville and Notre Dame. Both teams are very talented, very
disciplined and extremely well coaches. Ken Lolla (Louisville) and Bobby Clark
(Notre Dame) are two of the best coaches in college soccer. They have their
teams very well organized and are always a difficult match. We were fortunate
enough to be on the right side of both results, but we know that there isn't
much that separates us from those teams.
I am extremely proud that our boys were able to win the regular season and the
conference tournament this year. This is not an easy thing to do and our players
showed great resiliency and determination.
Our preparation is completely now on our next match. Our staff has been
extremely focused in their approach all season and I hope that we can continue
this mentality.
I would also like to thank the UConn Husky FANS who have really been
unbelievable this year. They have been very supportive and have helped our team
through difficult situations. We appreciate your support and hope that you will
be at our match on Wednesday, Nov. 28 when we play the winner of
Vermont/Dartmouth at 7:00 p.m. in Morrone Stadium.
Finally, I would once again like to thank the Goal Patrol. You ladies and
gentlemen have been tremendous this season and you mean the world to our
players. There is not a student support group in the country that comes close to
you. You have been there for us in the heat, the cold, the wind and the freezing
night temperatures.
Your passion and emotion for UConn Soccer is second to none. We sincerely
appreciate your love for the team and for the sport. You have been a key factor
in helping "the boys" this year and we can't wait to see you Wednesday night. On
behalf of the 28 players and coaching staff, we would like to salute the "best
college sports fans in the country."
