Soccer MAC Hermann Trophy To Be Presented On Friday

Conn. (January 9, 2008) - University of Connecticut men's soccer player
O'Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario) will travel to St. Louis for the
Missouri Athletic Club (M.A.C.) Hermann Trophy presentation Friday, Jan. 11. White, the 2007 Soccer
America Player of the Year, is one of three finalists up for college
soccer's most prestigious award.
The M.A.C. Hermann Trophy is regarded as college soccer's version of the Heisman
Trophy and over the years has honored some of American soccer's biggest stars
like Mia Hamm, Claudio Reyna, Kristine Lilly, Tony Meola and Alexi Lalas.
White could join the likes of former Huskies Joe M. Morrone (1980) and Chris
Gbandi (2000) to take home this award.
Notre Dame's Joseph Lapira and Virginia Tech's Patrick Nyarko join White as
finalists for the Hermann Award. Lapira was the 2006 recipient after scoring 22
goals and 50 points as a junior.
White led all NCAA Division I men's scorers in points with 53 and goals with 23,
including six in postseason play. He also notched seven assists on the season.
White was selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and was also a
unanimous choice on the all-conference first team after earning conference
Player of the Week honors five times this season. |
