No. 2 Men's Soccer Blanks Hofstra, 2-0, In Final Exhibition

STORRS, Conn. (August 23, 2008) - Shawn Nicklaw (San Diego, Calif.) and O'Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario) each scored for the No. 2 nationally-ranked University of Connecticut men's soccer team as it defeated Hofstra, 2-0, Saturday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in front of 4,367 fans. The Huskies conclude their exhibition season with a 2-0 record as they head into Friday night's season opener against St. Peter's.

Both goals came in the second half for Connecticut, despite holding an 8-2 shot advantage in the opening period. Nicklaw found the back of the net first, converting on a pass from White in the 72nd minute with a hard shot from the middle of the penalty area.

White then came up with a tally of his own 14 minutes later when Oscar Castillo (El Monte, Calif.) fed him a pass out to the right side that he sent inside the opposite post.

Connecticut out-shot Hofstra 13-2 on the night, including a 5-0 effort in the second half. Pride goalkeeper James Winters made four saves on the night, while Josh Ford (Liverpool, N.Y.) was not forced to make one.

The Huskies open the 2008 season next weekend in the UConn/adidas Challenge. They will face St. Peter's Friday night at 7:00 before taking on No. 23 Tulsa Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
