Swimming and Diving Opens at BIG EAST Championships
Allison Coleman captures One Meter Diving Crown
Results- Day 1
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (February 15, 2006) – The University of Connecticut
men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened up competition Wednesday
afternoon at the Nassau Aquatic Center.
The men’s team is in eighth place with 50 points, while the
women’s team completed day one in fifth place with 68 points.
Sophomore Allison Coleman (New Canaan, Conn.)
captured the title in the women’s one meter dive event with a score of 242.9.
Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.), Emily Karel
(Bethesda, Md.), Danielle Sanders (Mississauga, Ontario) and Ryan
Smith (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) teamed together in the women’s 800 freestyle
relay to finish in fourth place with a time of 7:28.28.
Kristalynn Kempton (Glen Head, N.Y.) and Diane
Duncheskie (Oreland, Pa.) joined Shelps and Smith in the 200 medley relay to
secure a ninth place finish for the Huskies (1:47.15).
On the men’s side, the 800 freestyle relay saw a seventh
place finish from Tristan Jones (Wanniassa, Australia), Michael Brocki
(Westhampton, N.Y.), Jules Alexandre (Wallingford, Conn.) and Mike
McNulty (Hartland, Wis.).
In the 200 medley relay, Jones combined with John Henry
Dasinger (Madison, Miss.), Adrian Astiz (Bethesda, Md.) and Abed
Kaaki (Ras Tarura, Saudi Arabia) for sixth place (1:31.88).
Competition will resume tomorrow with the preliminaries set
to begin at 10:30 a.m. and the finals slated for 6:00 p.m. |
