Men's Tennis Wins Second Straight,
Defeats Monmouth 4-3
MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 12, 2008) -
The University of Connecticut men's tennis team wrapped up a three-match Spring
Break trip with a 4-3 win over Monmouth Wednesday. The Huskies are now 7-5 on
the year.
UConn started the day off by
capturing two of three doubles matches to take the 1--0 team lead heading into
singles action. From there, the Huskies captured wins in flights three, five and
six to pull out the win. They have now won two consecutive matches and three in
the young spring season.
Joey Michaels (Rochester
Hills, Mich.) defeated Pedro Bruno in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Tom Cook
(Pittsford, N.Y.) also took three sets to take down his opponent, Tim McLane,
2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Christian Malerba (Derby,
Conn.), who has now won three straight singles matches, was the only one to put
away his opponent in two sets. He defeated Vik Gupta, 6-1, 6-4 in the no. 5
spot.
The Huskies return to action March 20
against Quinnipiac at 2:00 p.m. in Storrs.
