Marist Defeats Men's Tennis, 6-1

STORRS, Conn. (April 8, 2008) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team was undefeated at home heading into Tuesday's match against Marist, but Red Foxes ended the streak by defeating the Huskies, 6-1, on the UConn Tennis Courts. The Huskies are now 5-8-1 on the season heading into their regular-season finale Thursday.

UConn's lone point of the day came from doubles action as the Huskies captured wins in first and third doubles. Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.)/Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) won 8-2 at No.1, while Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) took their No. 3 match down to the wire before winning 9-8.

The Huskies were unable to earn a win in singles play. Christian Malerba's (Derby, Conn.) loss in flight five ended an eight-match singles winning streak that dated back to Mar. 10 against Cleveland State.

UConn returns to action Thursday, April 10 against Holy Cross at 3:30 p.m. on the UConn Tennis Courts. It will be the final home match for senior captains Mike Bobitski, Christian Malerba and Aaron Ribchinsky.
