Men's Track and Field Wins Six Events at Annual Alumni Invitational
UConn Alumni Invitational Men's
Results STORRS, Conn. (April 5, 2008) - The
University of Connecticut men's track and field team hosted their annual Alumni
Invitational Saturday. The event was a great success for the Huskies as they
took home titles in six of the 20 events contested. There was no team scoring
for the meet. Three Connecticut athletes won events on the track side.
Brian Gagnon (Lowell, Mass.) won the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:56.98.
Kyle Edmonds (Mutuchen, N.J.) took first in the 400-meter hurdles with a
time of 53.57 seconds. Will Sanders (Wethersfield, Conn.) won the
steeplechase with a time of 9:19.30. The Huskies also took first in the
4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:18.01. Two more athletes won titles in the
field events, Tyrone Faverey (Allentown, Pa.) took first in the high jump,
clearing 6-4¼. Zachary Meverden (Wexford, Pa.) was the winner in the pole
vault, clearing 15-6¼.
In addition to his win in the high jump, Favery was second in the triple jump
with a distance of 47-11. Anthony Burris (Bridgeport, Conn.) also had a
strong day for UConn, finishing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of
10.91 seconds, as well as second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.15
seconds. UConn will be splitting their team next weekend. Select athletes will
travel to Miami, Fla. for the Spec Towns Invite/Miami Elite Invitational on
April 11-12. The rest of the team will compete at the Brown Invitational in
Providence, R.I. on April 12.
