Brown Invitational Results

MIAMI, Fla. (April 12, 2008) - Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.) won both the shot put and the discuss, and Brian Gagnon (Lowell, Mass.) won the 800-meter run to lead the University of Connecticut men's track and field team at the Miami Elite Invitational Saturday. The event was non-team scoring and featured some of the top athletes from the eastern half of the country.

Dubs easily won both events he competed in. His discus throw of 148-7 beat his nearest competitor by over 11 feet. He won the shot put with a toss of 55-8¼. The second place competitor's toss was over eight feet less than that. Gagnon's winning time in the 800-meter run was 1:50.03, winning the race by one and a half seconds.

Other top performers at Miami included Michael Rutt (Sinking Spring, Pa.), who finished in third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.07. Tyrone Faverey (Allentown, Pa.) finished third in the high jump, clearing 6-4¾, as well as fourth in the triple jump, with a leap of 46-6. Kyle Edmonds (Metuchen, Pa.) finished fourth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 51.80 seconds.

While eight athletes competed in Miami, the rest of the team competed at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I.
