Dubs Wins Shot Put to Highlight Men's Track and Field at Day Two of BIG EAST Championship

BIG EAST Championship Results Day 2

VILLANOVA, Pa. (May 3, 2008) - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team is in fourth place with 32 points after day two of the outdoor BIG EAST Championship Saturday. Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.) had the major highlight for the Huskies as he won a BIG EAST title in the shot put for the second straight year with a throw of 60-3¼. That throw was a personal record, beating his previous best by nearly three feet.

The decathlon proved to be a big scorer for UConn as all five competitors finished in the top eight, scoring points for the Huskies. The top finisher was Aaron King (Wharton, N.J.). He finished third with 6,671 points.

Basil Campbell (Ewing, N.J.) had a strong day as he finished in the top eight of all three of his races, and qualified for the finals on Sunday of the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 110-meter high hurdles. Anthony Burris (Bridgeport, Conn.) had the best time in the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 52.00 seconds. He'll be joined in the final by Kyle Edmonds (Metuchen, N.J.), who qualified with a time of 52.60 seconds. Other qualifiers in the track events included indoor All-Americans Brian Gagnon (Lowell, Mass.) and Michael Rutt (Sinking Springs, Pa.), who will both race in tomorrow's 800-meter run final.

The BIG EAST Championship concludes on Sunday. Field events will begin at 10:00 a.m., while track events begin at 11:15 a.m.
