Men's Track and Field Takes Second Place at New England Championship
New
England Championship Full Results DURHAM, N.H. (May 10,
2008) - Despite fielding a limited team due to finals, the University of
Connecticut men's track and field team still managed to finish second in the
2008 New England Championship with 79 points. Rhode Island won the meet with 122
points. The Huskies managed four individual titles at the meet. In the track
events, Michael Rutt (Sinking Springs, Pa.) followed up his BIG
EAST 800-meter win with a win in the 800-meter run this week, this time with a
time of 1:52.34. Andrew Smith (Sudbury, Mass.) finished right behind him
with a career best second place finish in a time of 1:53.01. Verrol Jackson
(Schenectady, N.Y.) won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.20 seconds.
Kyle Edmonds (Metuchen, N.J.) won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of
52.34 seconds. In the field events, Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.) won the
shot put for the second straight week with a throw of 58-4½. Other highlights
included Zachary Meverden (Wexford, Pa.) finishing third in the pole
vault, clearing 15-9. Dylan Dombrowski (Breezy Point, N.Y.) finished
fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 191-7. Museveni Akanno
(Linden, N.J.) finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 47-6¼.
The Huskies return to action next week when they compete in the IC4A
Championship in Princeton, N.J. on May 16-18.
