Cash Receives Weekly Conference Award
PROVIDENCE, RI (Jan. 14, 2002) -- For the third time this season,
University of Connecticut women’s basketball senior forward Swin Cash
(McKeesport, PA) has garnered Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week honors,
sharing the award with Jaime James of Syracuse. Cash averaged 16.0
points and 12.0 rebounds in two UConn victories last week.
In an 84-43 victory over St. John’s, Cash posted 15 points and nine rebounds,
narrowly missing her team and league-leading ninth double-double of the season.
She eventually registered that double-double against Miami on Saturday,
recording 17 points and 15 rebounds, including 13 points and 10 boards in the
first half, in the 96-50 Husky win.
Cash also claimed Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on Nov. 19 and Dec.
31.
This week’s award is the third consecutive for a UConn player. After Cash
received the Dec. 31 honor, sophomore Diana Taurasi (Chino, CA) was tabbed last
week’s Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week. Taurasi also won Co-BIG EAST Player of
the Week honors for Dec. 3.
The No. 1 Huskies return to action tomorrow night in an 8 p.m. matchup
against Georgetown in Washington, DC. |
