Conn. (October 2, 2008) –
The University of
Connecticut women’s basketball team will play a minimum of nine games on
national television in 2008-09 as part of this season’s BIG EAST Women’s
Basketball Television Package, which was announced today by conference
officials.
The
Huskies will play four regular-season games on ESPN2 in 2008-09 along with
two on ESPNU and one each on ESPN, CBS and CBS College Sports Television.
Connecticut will make
its first national television appearance on Sunday, Nov. 30 when it faces
Oklahoma in an 8:15 p.m. ESPN telecast. The Huskies and Sooners last met
in the 2005 Preseason WNIT Championship Game, which saw UConn prevail 82-62.
This will represent the
20th consecutive year that UConn women’s basketball will be televised
nationally on one of ESPN’s family of networks.
UConn will appear on CBS
for the 19th consecutive season when it plays host to LSU on Saturday, Jan.
3 in a noon tip at the XL Center in Hartford. This will mark the fourth
consecutive regular season which will see the Huskies face the Tigers, who
are coming off their fifth consecutive NCAA Final Four appearance.
Connecticut will travel
to Chapel Hill, N.C., to battle North Carolina in its first of four
appearances on ESPN2, Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The Huskies rallied
from an 11-point halftime deficit to post an 82-71 win over the Tar Heels in
last year's regular season meeting between the programs at Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies other games
which will air on ESPN2 include a trip to battle BIG EAST rival Rutgers in
the regular-season finale on Monday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. UConn will also
play host to BIG EAST upstarts Louisville (Jan. 26) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 15)
in a pair of nationally-televised ESPN2 broadcasts.
ESPNU will nationally
televise Connecticut’s game against Penn State at Madison Square Garden in
New York, N.Y., at the Maggie Dixon Classic on Sunday, Dec. 14 in a 2:30
p.m. tip. Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) will also air the UConn-Penn
State showdown live in the state of Connecticut.
The Huskies will make
their final appearance of the season on ESPNU against Notre Dame at the XL
Center on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
CBS College Sports will
air Connecticut’s first meeting of the regular season with Rutgers on
Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 8:00 p.m.
