Women's Cross Country Takes Second at Central Connecticut Mini Meet

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (October 20, 2007) – The University of Connecticut women’s cross country team took a second place finish at the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet on Saturday afternoon in New Britain, Conn.

Alasia Griebel (Bristol, Conn.) was the first to cross the finish line for the Huskies as she took a seventh place finish. Co-captain Kate Vaughan (Bethel Park, Pa.) came in right behind Griebel in ninth, to finish second for the Huskies.

UNH took the victory with 24 points, as its top-five finishes crossed the finish line within the top-10 finishers. Uconn finished in second with 64.

“I was really pleased with how we ran and I believe it prepared us well for the BIG EAST Championships,” said distance coach Kim Mcgreevy. “It was a beautiful day but a muddy course but we looked good under the circumstances and did well.”

The Huskies will travel to Louisville, Ky. For the BIG EAST Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28.

“We are very excited for the BIG EAST Championships,” said head coach Bill Morgan. “I am looking forward to seeing the team putting together a great race after all their hard work they have put in so far this season.”
