Women's Cross Country Recognized As NCAA All-Academic Team
NEW ORLEANS, La. (February 27, 2008) - For the fifth
consecutive year, the University of Connecticut women's cross
country team has garnered the distinction as a NCAA All-Academic
Team, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association on Wednesday. The team qualifications require a minimum 3.0
cumulative grade point average during the fall 2007 term.
"I am extremely proud of our women and their commitment to
excellence both in the classroom and on the course," head coach Bill Morgan
said. "Our captains, Kate Vaughan (Bethel Park, Pa.) and Keelan
King (Scotia, N.Y.), have set a high standard, demonstrating the ideals
of our program in every way. Along with the guidance of our captains and the mentoring of
distance coach Kim McGreevy, the partnering for success on and off the
course is great." In all, 158 Division I women's programs received
the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honor. There are 325 teams in Division I that
sponsor a women's cross country program and of the 158 on the list, 35 of
them had team GPAs over 3.50. BIG EAST opponent, South Florida, led all
schools with a team GPA of 3.78. |
